Over the two-week Easter holiday, Mudchute Equestrian Centre hosted a program through Sport England for girls ages 8-16 to have a free 2 hour equestrian experience. Each session included 1 hour of riding and a 1 hour of grooming, whereby the girls learned basic horsemanship skills and got to pamper our very lucky horses and ponies. We were able to reach out to a variety of different ethnic backgrounds, and give many children an opportunity that their parents may not have otherwise been able to afford.

”Anika really enjoyed her time at Mudchute. She loves animals, and has always wanted to try riding, but with four children it was just not realistic, so we were really excited when we saw the poster for the Free Sport England program. She had an amazing day riding and grooming, and she is even going to come for a couple hours on the weekends to help out at the stables.” – Anika’s Mom, 12 yrs old

There has been an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from the girls who attended, and the program was hugely popular; so much so that we were fully booked every day! We look forward to welcoming our new horse enthusiasts back through our doors very soon.

On Friday, April 8th, we hosted London’s first ever Girl Kart Grand Prix with teams of girls designing, building and racing their very own go kart creations here on the farm. The event was run with London Play and Dare To Be Different.

The teams designed and built some fantastic karts and the culmination of the day were the exhilarating go kart races across the farm. Ex-racing driver Susie Wolff handed out the prize to winning team Kartelle from South East London. Congratulations!

A big thank you to all those who made this event possible, especially all of the amazing volunteers. And for those who missed out, there are plans for another race for girls and boy in August! More details from London Play.
