You may have spotted an impressive and not entirely typical farm attraction at Mudchute. This is our beautifully restored Ack Ack gun! Did you know that the cement gun sites (currently home to some of our pigs and other farmyard animals) were actually sites for antiaircraft guns during WWII? To celebrate the restoration and history of the farm, the Mudchute Association is hosting two celebratory events and we hope you’ll be able to join us at one or both!

We’ll be kicking things off with the 2012 Mudchute Summer Banquet on the evening of Thursday, June 21st with guests including Bamber Gascoigne and Delia Smith. The evening will open with champagne and music on the hill overlooking the gun with dinner to follow. Tickets must be purchased in advance at £75 per ticket and we welcome both individuals and table bookings (tables are for 10). It looks to be a great event with 1940s music from the Swinging Sweethearts! Click here for the full invitation and details. Tickets are limited, so please do book soon!

The official public opening of our Ack Ack gun supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and new farm road supported by the Veolia Environmental Trust will take place at noon next Saturday, June 23rd and to celebrate the launch we are throwing a street party with music and games (invitation below)! Everyone is most welcome and we hope you will all be able to join us on Saturday! We hope you enjoy the events and finding out more about the history of the Isle of Dogs!
