On Wednesday, we welcomed nearly 100 volunteers from Valero. With so many hands to help, we were able to make great strides in a range of projects across Mudchute. Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers from Valero as well as to our staff and volunteers for their hard work in preparation for and during the day! More photos and information about just a few of the many projects underway on the next page.
Habitat Wall
To better support our wildlife, we have created a habitat wall outside the Main Courtyard and will be populating the compartments of the wall with a variety of materials to provide hiding places for insects, spiders and other wild creatures to make their homes and spend the winter.
Courtyard Extension
We have also been working to pedestrianise the entrance to our Main Courtyard. Vehicles are no longer permitted in this area and volunteers helped us to tidy up in preparation for re-landscaping and converting it into a more welcoming entrance.
Cow Shelter
We began work on a new shelter for our cows a few weeks ago and made huge progress with the project thanks to the Valero team. The project rapidly turned from a foundation, to a fully developed shelter! We’ve got just a few finishing touches to add and look forward to seeing what Dora and Delilah make of their beautiful new shelter (with a stunning view of Canary Wharf too!). Thank you also to our very talented volunteer Colin who helped design and supervise the construction!
Nursery Projects
Volunteers also got stuck in at Muddy Boots nursery, where they helped to tidy and mulch the nursery garden and surrounding trails and make improvements to the entrance to the nursery.
