It’s been a week since the arrival of our golden pheasant chicks and in just one week they’ve grown and developed so much! You can still see them near pets corner in their brooder and venturing out into their new run built by our incredibly handy volunteer, Duncan. They still pop back under the heat lamp for warmth, but you’ll probably catch them out and about exploring their enclosure as their confidence and strength grows. At only 7 days, they’re already developing wing feathers and are very inquisitive! More photos on the next page.
We are proud to announce another set of exciting arrivals for the farm! Tiny baby pheasants! You can see our new little chicks and our mandarin ducklings in Pets Corner. The golden pheasant (Chrysolophus pictus) is a beautiful species that is native to the forests in mountainous areas of western China. Our adult pheasants (the parents of these little chicks) live in Pheasant Crescent in Pets Corner. The male is brightly coloured and his hens look very similar to those of female common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus). More photos of the tiny new arrivals on the next page!
We’re proud to announce another new arrival! Remember our Mandarin duck hatching eggs? Although the eggs are due to hatch tomorrow, we’ve had an early arrival! This little one was developing a bit faster than its siblings and we heard this little guy (or girl!) cheeping in its egg late Friday night. That, taken together with a look at its beak in the egg’s air cell meant that it had internally pipped and was getting close to hatching. However, there was no further activity until this afternoon when it burst out of its egg! The tiny duckling is still drying off, so looks a bit bedraggled, but is fluffing up nicely. More adorable photos on the next page. Continue reading
