February Half Term 2013

Join us at Mudchute this February for an exciting new programme of half term activities. We will be running a variety of events during the week of February 18th to 22nd. Highlights will include a Fun Day on Wednesday, February 20th from 11am to 3pm, as well as Open Access sessions for young children, half term holiday activity sessions and more. Please note that the the cafe will be open all week, including Monday, February 18th.

We will add further details in the days to come, so be sure to check back for further details!

Open Access

Open Access sessions will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (February 18, 19 and 21st) from 10am - 12pm and 12:30pm to 2:30pm each day. These sessions include arts and crafts and other activities suitable for young children. These sessions are free of charge and will take place in the Living Classroom. Please note that there is no Open Access session on Wednesday or Friday.

Mini Fun Day, Wednesday, February 20th!

We'll be hosting a mini fun day from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday, February 20th. Events will take place in the Living Classroom and include pizza making, face painting, a chance to meet some of your favourite farm animals, mini fairground stalls and fun and games for all ages including bingo from 11am to 12pm!

Activities on the Farm

Throughout our half term week, you will have the chance to meet farmers at work and get a taste of what it takes to look after our farm animals. Animal feed will be available for sale in the newly refurbished farm shop and visitors will have the opportunity to meet some of our animals up close and even help farmers on their rounds at feeding time!

Our Farm activities timetable. (Daily throughout the February Half Term):

11.00am (every day except Monday): Sheep Encounter: An informative and entertaining thirty minute session in Pet's Corner showcasing one of our sheep

12.00pm: Pet Party: A chance to meet and stroke small animals from Pet's Corner

1.00pm: Sheep Encounter: An informative and entertaining thirty minute session in Pet's Corner showcasing one of our sheep

2.00pm Goats Go Crazy: Come and be entertained as the goats are fed special treats in their pen

Equestrian Centre

The stables will be hosting a Pony Club dressage and jumping session on Wednesday, February 20th, providing an excellent opportunity to watch the horses and ponies of the Mudchute Equestrian Centre in action in the outdoor arena.

As well as the Pony Club event on Wednesday there will also be opportunities to view the horses in action on Monday 18th Feb at 2.00pm where there will be a show of Lunges in the arena for spectators.

If you would like to see the horses being groomed we are also offering an opportunity to view this on Tuesday 19th Feb at 11.00am and Thursday 21st Feb at 10.30am.

Half Term Holiday Activities at Mudchute Ecology Centre*

This February, we will also be running special activity sessions designed for 5-10 year olds (under 8s must be accompanied by an adult) with an ecological theme. Please find details of the sessions below. As places are limited, advanced booking is strongly recommended and details on how to do so can be found below.

Making farm animal pictures with vintage buttons.

Tree-mendous

Come on a tree identification walk around the farm, and make a magic leaf wish.

Tuesday
Feb 19th

Cockney Sparrow

Join us on a bird spotting walk, and make a feeder to take home. Risk of nut allergy.

Nature’s Superhero

Make an exploration cape, and identify ways to protect wildlife.

Wednesday
Feb 20th

Survivor

Test your survival skills in the Mudchute woods. Have the chance to make a shelter and learn how to lash with rope.

You’re having a Raft

Collect natural materials around the farm and make a miniature raft.

Thursday
Feb 21st

House about that

Make bird boxes to take home.

Forest Faces

Bring the trees to life by making clay faces, and make an elf from found materials.

Friday
Feb 22nd

Owl Interesting

Dissect a real owl’s pellet and find out what they eat for breakfast. Make an owl mask.

Amazing Pop-Up Den

Make an umbrella den to take home.
