Arts and Crafts

Festive Arts and Crafts

Children will have the opportunity to partake in festive arts and craft activities including decorating cakes, making candles and centrepieces and making their own crackers! These sessions will take place in the Living Classroom and the adjoining Barn.

Blacksmith Demonstrations and Workshops

Stepney City Farms Rural Arts Centre Artist Blacksmith (Ian Lowe) will be available over the weekend providing participants wilth the opportunity to try their hand at this rare and exciting art. With over seven years experience working around the world Mr Lowe will guide the group through some of the fundamental techniques involved in traditional metalworking. Each participant will then creat their own individual souvenir to take away with them.

Each have a go session will run for an hour's duration with up to a maximum of five students per session and can be booked for either the Saturday or Sunday by payment in advance. Sturdy foot wear is recommended, all other PPE and materials will be supplied.

Woodworking Sessions

Working with non-electric hand tools is quiet, sustainable and nurtures a greater understanding of and appreciation for wood and the trees that provide it. This weekend, we’ll have fun using green woodworking tools to make whistles and spoons out of unseasoned wood. All are welcome to make whistles, but please note that spoon making (because of the tools used and strength necessary) will only be for older teens and adults and is limited to five participants per session. Both activities are donation only.

Falconry Sessions

There will be a falconry display with the chance for adults to fly the beautiful Harris Hawk! Unfortunately children will not be able to fly the hawk, but are welcome to watch!
