TURKEYS

Turkeys were brought to Europe from the new world. Although wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) are reasonable fliers, domesticated turkeys are too heavy to fly very well. A male Turkey is called a 'Stag', a female Turkey a 'Hen' and a baby Turkey is called a 'Poult'. You can learn more about turkeys from the Turkey Club UK.

These are our striking white turkeys. The Pied turkey originates from Europe where it has been recorded since the 1700s. An ornamental bird, it is also an excellent egg layer.
